    Description

Old St. Peters, currently a unique family home, is the former parish church to the village of Peterstone and was founded in 1142. At nearly 900 years old the building has been of religious and community importance for a very long time, it has been witness to many historical and life changing events. The ornamental stonework both inside and out is awe inspiring, revealing the story of how the building has changed throughout the centuries.

Old St Peter's is one of only six Grade I listed buildings in the county of Newport. Founded in 1142 by the St Augustin monks of Bristol, now Bristol Cathedral, who were given the land by Mabel Fitzhamon, the church is steeped in history.

The church has eight bells, six of which date from 1722 and a further two were added in 1913, all with dates and inscriptions from when they were installed. There are many other fascinating reminders of past significant historical events, including the flood mark commemorating the Great Flood of 1606, interior stonework reflecting the pre and post reformation and inscriptions commemorating dates of restoration.

The interior creates a calm and peaceful environment that can only be appreciated by experiencing it for one's self. It presents the new owner with the opportunity to add to the history of the building, adapting the existing accommodation to suit their needs.

From the top of the tower there are magnificent views that look into four, sometimes five counties with an incredible panoramic view of the Welsh and Monmouthshire mountains on one side and the Bristol Channel and Mendip Hills beyond to the other. On a perfect summer's day, I'm not sure you would ever want to come away from this breath-taking scenery.

The plans provide for internal compartmentation of the space to provide separate rooms but avoiding significant alteration to the main structure. There are many detailed drawings which can be downloaded within the legal pack.

It is considered that there may also be further potential to convert the property to multiple units subject to the necessary consents.
